SOLI Hub at Tamhini, a remote village in the Western Ghats of Maharashtra, started in November 2019. Interestingly, all the students of grades 7 and 8 of Vinzai Devi High School,decided to participate in the programme.
While lack of internet connectivity was top of the mind, children chose to focus on lack of medical facilities.
They conducted a survey of various ailments that villagers suffer from and also tabulated deaths that have occurred due to accidents and snake-bites. Since the antidote to snake venom has to be administered within 40 minutes of the bite and reaching the nearest health-care centre takes time in this hilly region, these bites turn fatal.
